It’s not exactly a scientific survey, but a LinkedIn poll from Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., the president and CEO of the U.S.-based Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), has shed some light on what employers can do to motivate workers to be more productive.
“Create flexibility” topped the list as a clear favourite, with 56% of the 1,906 respondents selecting it. That was followed by:
- Increase pay (34%)
- Encourage breaks (4%)
- Other (7%)
In the “other” category, respondents added ideas like “being provided with clear objectives and desired outcomes for deadlines coupled with autonomy to complete the work” and “match employees to their passion and make sure to continue to meet their interests.”
“We can’t truly understand our organizations until we understand what drives our people,” said Taylor. “That’s how we set ourselves up for success.”
