Halton Region has once again been recognized as a Greater Toronto Top Employer by MediaCorp, joining leading organizations across government and industry in the annual showcase.

“We’re proud to be recognized as a Greater Toronto Top Employer again,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Thousands of people apply to work at Halton Region each year because we offer a workplace that values wellness, collaboration, professional development, recognition, community impact, and service excellence.”

Chief Administrative Officer Andrew Farr said the recognition validates the region’s investments in workplace culture. “This recognition matters because it benchmarks us against top employers locally and nationally,” Farr said. “It validates the investments we make in workplace culture to attract and retain the best talent who deliver exceptional service to our community.”

Halton’s workplace culture is built on purpose, growth and well-being. According to the region, 81 per cent of employees say Halton is a great place to work, driven by collaboration and community impact. More than half of all roles are filled internally, reflecting a commitment to career mobility and professional development. Eligible employees and their families have access to $5,000 in mental health benefits, while 10 weekly wellness activities — ranging from intramural sports to instructor-led yoga — promote health, balance and team spirit. The region also reports a 94 per cent retention rate among permanent employees, underscoring its supportive workplace environment.

MediaCorp highlighted several reasons for Halton’s selection as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2026. The region recently expanded mental health coverage, offering most employees up to $5,000 annually for services from licensed practitioners such as therapists, psychotherapists and clinical counsellors. Halton also promotes healthy work-life balance through a corporate wellness program supported by a cross-department committee, alongside a newly expanded 2,300-square-foot Fitness and Wellness Centre equipped with gym facilities, a yoga studio, bottle refill stations, lockers and showers. In addition, the region encourages staff to contribute innovative ideas through its Dragons’ Den-inspired “Innovation Quest,” which has already generated proposals such as an automated insurance compliance tool, a strategic bulk purchasing approach and the launch of a Toastmasters Club to strengthen communication skills.

Halton Region serves more than 650,000 residents in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. It delivers programs and services including water and wastewater, regional roads and infrastructure planning, paramedic services, waste management, public health, social assistance, children’s and seniors’ services, housing services and emergency management.
