IKEA is taking a novel approach to recruitment by offering paid positions to workers in the U.K. or Ireland in its new virtual store on Roblox.

Launching June 24, “The Co-Worker Game” invites applicants to experience working in a digital IKEA environment, with applications open until June 16 for 10 paid roles.

This initiative provides a unique opportunity for individuals to engage with IKEA’s work culture in a virtual setting. Successful candidates will perform tasks such as assisting customers and moving between departments, reflecting the retailer’s real-world career pathways.

Each selected co-worker will be compensated at the standard IKEA hourly rate of £13.15 (about $23 Canadian), consistent with the company’s status as a Living Wage Foundation employer, it said in a press release.

“We’re excited to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life. At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression,” said Darren Taylor, country people and culture manager at IKEA UK and Ireland. “Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world.”

The virtual store, developed by Swedish game design company The Gang, offers a comprehensive IKEA experience. Players can explore the Swedish Food Market, serve meatballs, and organize showrooms using iconic IKEA products. Beyond the paid roles, the broader Roblox community can also participate in these activities and earn exclusive IKEA user-generated content (UGCs).

Virtual interviews for the shortlisted candidates will take place from June 14 to June 18. The roles are fully remote, and applicants must be over 18 and reside in the UK or Ireland.

This initiative is part of IKEA’s “Careers Done Different” campaign, designed to attract a new generation of co-workers. The recruitment process includes a questionnaire and may require an updated CV and video submission. Successful candidates will be invited to a digital interview.

Paid participants must meet age and residency requirements. This promotion is not affiliated with Roblox, and Roblox is not responsible for the fulfillment of any compensation or rewards related to this promotion.
