Maintenance workers at Montreal’s public transit agency have started refusing to work overtime as part of an ongoing labour dispute.

The overtime strike by the 2,400 workers started at midnight and is expected to continue through Jan. 11.

The CEO of Montreal’s transit agency says metro operations and paratransit services are expected to continue on schedule.

Marie-Claude Léonard says there is more concern about bus service, which could eventually see cutbacks as maintenance lags and more vehicles are out of service.

This is the fourth strike by maintenance workers, whose previous job actions occurred in June, September to October, and November.

The province’s labour tribunal ruled Wednesday that only essential services had to be maintained during the strike, including on holidays.
