Umbrella Central Day Care Services and Sentient HR Services Inc. have announced the launch of the 25th Annual Salary Survey for Ontario’s childcare sector.

This survey, a collaboration between the two organizations, aims to enhance transparency and equity in compensation practices within the childcare community.

The annual survey has established itself as a key resource for over 1,000 childcare centres across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Durham, Peel, York, and Eastern Ontario. It provides these centres with the ability to benchmark their compensation packages against industry standards, ensuring fair and equitable pay for their staff. The survey also offers insights into various aspects of staff remuneration, including benefits like health and dental coverage.

Donna Ferguson, Administrator at Umbrella, underscored the survey’s significance, stating, “It has evolved into an indispensable resource, equipping our community with robust data on salaries, vacation credits, sick days, and comprehensive benefits.”

To facilitate participation and streamline data collection, a new user-friendly and secure website has been introduced. This platform simplifies the process of submitting salary information for childcare centres.

Gregory Dixon, Sentient’s Director of Business Development, highlighted the partnership’s efforts to promote equitable pay within the sector. “Our joint efforts illuminate the salary landscape within Ontario’s child care industry, advocating for fairness and transparency,” he said.

Participants in the survey will receive exclusive access to a detailed report summarizing the findings, complete with charts and graphs that illustrate salary variations by region, qualifications, and experience. This comprehensive report aims to encourage widespread participation and contribute to a richer dataset.

The survey portal opened on May 6, 2024, and will accept submissions until June 30, 2024. Childcare centres interested in participating can find more information and access the survey at www.childcaresurvey.ca.
