SEED, New Brunswick’s student wage subsidy program, now accepting applications from employers for 2025

by HR News Canada

Employer applications for the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program will open Jan. 6, providing funding to support student hiring through wage subsidies in New Brunswick.

The SEED program offers non-profit organizations, First Nations communities, and municipalities a wage subsidy to create student employment opportunities lasting up to 12 weeks between April 21 and Sept. 5. The deadline for employer applications is Feb. 7, and selections will be made in consultation with MLAs based on the priorities of their electoral districts, according to the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.

“This annual funding provides more opportunities for students to gain crucial workplace experience while helping employers create jobs through a wage subsidy,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Alyson Townsend.

Employers approved for SEED funding will be notified by March 28, with their job postings listed online. Students seeking employment will be able to apply directly to participating employers.

In 2024, the program funded 1,238 student positions across 774 employers.

The department encouraged students to also consider federally funded summer jobs and to explore other employment opportunities listed on NBjobs.ca. Employers experiencing recruitment challenges were advised to contact their regional WorkingNB office for support.
