Andrew Clunis has been elected president of the Power Workers’ Union, taking the helm of one of Ontario’s largest energy sector unions for a four-year term.
Clunis was chosen by delegates at the PWU’s 7th Quadrennial Election Convention, held June 24 to 26 in Markham. He succeeds in leading the union that represents the majority of skilled workers in the province’s generation, transmission, and distribution sectors.
“The PWU is a strong democratic union, and I’m honored and humbled to serve as President for the next four years,” said Clunis. “I look forward to continuing the strong advocacy for our members, which the PWU is known for.”
Clunis brings years of experience as a union leader and advocate for workers’ rights.
Also elected to the PWU Executive Committee were:
- Chris Reid, vice president, Sector 1 – Nuclear Generation
- Mike Hambly, vice president, Sector 2 – Renewable Generation
- Darren Nesbitt, vice president, Sector 3 – Transmission and Distribution
- James Middleton, vice president, Sector 4 – Local Distribution Companies
The PWU said its new leadership will maintain strong member representation and continue focusing on securing high-skilled, well-paid jobs while supporting environmentally responsible and affordable power generation in Ontario.
