More than 2,300 Videotron employees in Western Quebec have approved a new collective agreement that extends their contract to 2030, five months before their current deal was set to expire.

Members of the Syndicat des employées et employés de Vidéotron (SEVL-2815) voted Wednesday night to accept the tentative agreement reached July 4. The new contract takes effect Jan. 1, 2026, replacing the current deal that expires Dec. 31, 2025.

The early settlement comes as telecommunications companies across Canada face challenges recruiting and keeping skilled workers in a competitive labour market.

Early agreement benefits both sides

“The mutual respect, spirit of cooperation and professionalism at the bargaining table enabled us to reach a strategic agreement for Videotron’s future,” said Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor, Videotron’s parent company.

Péladeau said the deal helps address “talent attraction and retention” challenges facing the industry while maintaining competitive employment conditions.

Roger Boudreau, president of SEVL-CUPE 2815, said the agreement provides workers with “a real increase in purchasing power in a challenging economic environment.”

Contract details remain private

Neither the company nor union released specific details about wage increases, benefits changes or other contract terms. The agreement covers employees across Videotron’s Western Quebec operations, including customer service, technical and administrative roles.

The deal represents one of the larger recent labour settlements in Quebec’s telecommunications sector. CUPE represents more than 6,100 workers in the province’s communications industry.
