A worker has died at an underground potash mine in southern Saskatchewan.
The Mosaic Company says the employee died in what it calls a fall of ground incident.
The K3 mine is near Esterhazy, about 230 kilometres east of Regina.
The company says no other injuries have been reported and it’s working closely with all regulatory authorities.
It says the mine’s emergency response team was activated and the site has been secured.
The company says all mining activity has been temporarily stopped, and an investigation is underway.
“The safety and well-being of our people remain Mosaic’s highest priority,” the company said in a statement Monday.
“Our thoughts go out to our colleague’s family and friends, all employees, and the broader community. We ask that the family be given privacy at this difficult time.”
The province said in a statement that its Occupational Health and Safety unit responded to the mine but it could not provide more information.
