The Nova Scotia Labour Board has certified the Game & Media Workers Guild of Canada as the bargaining agent for employees at Ubisoft Divertissements in Halifax after a majority voted in favour of unionization.
The certification, effective Dec. 18, covers all regular full-time and part-time employees working in or out of Halifax. Excluded from the bargaining unit are managers, directors and human resources coordinators, as well as other positions excluded under the Trade Union Act.
The union filed its application on June 18, 2025. The board determined that at least 40 per cent of employees in the proposed unit were members in good standing, meeting the threshold required under Section 23(1) of the Trade Union Act.
A representation vote was conducted, with the count held on Dec. 18. The board found that the majority of employees who cast ballots voted in favour of union representation.
The hearing took place over three days in November in Halifax.
The bargaining unit includes employees in various roles at the studio. Excluded positions include product manager, studio manager, user research lab senior manager, production designer, creative director, technical director, content directors, associate art directors and human resources coordinators.
The certification marks the formal recognition of the union as the exclusive bargaining representative for the unit.
