Medavie Blue Cross has launched a workplace accommodation service designed to help employers manage employee medical accommodation requests while reducing legal and operational risks.

The service, called At-work Accommodation Services, is offered in partnership with Arc Health, a workplace accommodation management company. It provides employers with access to expert guidance on balancing operational needs with employee wellbeing.

Fee-for-service model

The program operates on a fee-for-service basis and does not affect disability rates or claims performance. Employers can register at no cost and pay only when they use the service.

The service is designed for accommodation requests from employees who do not have an active disability case management file with Medavie or another disability carrier.

How it works

The service helps employers strengthen workplace culture and retention through consistent accommodation practices, according to the company. It also provides a standardized process managed by accommodation experts to reduce administrative burden.

“This service helps employers meet their duty to accommodate with confidence, while ensuring employees receive the right level of support to stay healthy and productive at work,” said Gillian Grossman, senior product specialist at Medavie Blue Cross.

Available resources

Medavie Blue Cross has developed a toolkit for employers that includes a digital brochure with service details, manager resources such as process guides and request forms, and frequently asked questions.

The service aims to ensure accommodations comply with employment legislation and organizational policy, according to Grossman.

The service is available to all group benefit clients of Medavie Blue Cross.
