Rivermate, a global workforce solutions provider, has expanded its employer of record services to support organizations hiring and managing employees across more than 180 countries.

The New York-based company said the expansion includes broader country coverage and increased operational capacity. It is aimed at organizations building distributed teams or entering new markets without setting up local legal entities.

“Organizations are increasingly seeking flexible workforce models that allow access to global talent,” said Vivien Sujbert, Rivermate’s chief marketing officer.

“The EOR services are intended to support that shift by providing a consistent employment framework across borders.”

How the model works

Under an employer of record, or EOR, arrangement, Rivermate acts as the legal employer on behalf of client organizations in each country where workers are hired. The client organization directs day-to-day work and manages performance, while Rivermate handles the employment and administrative side.

Rivermate manages a range of employment functions under this model, including locally compliant employment agreements, payroll processing, tax withholding and reporting, benefits administration, and employment lifecycle events such as contract amendments and terminations.

Addressing cross-border complexity

Cross-border employment requires organizations to navigate employment laws, tax regulations, statutory benefits, and worker classification rules that vary by country and change frequently. Without an EOR, companies typically need to establish a local entity, register with tax authorities, open local bank accounts, and engage legal and payroll providers in each market — a process that can take months.

Rivermate says its EOR model offers an alternative that can reduce time-to-hire and limit upfront investment. It also provides flexibility as workforce needs change.

The EOR model is commonly used by organizations entering markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Spain, or hiring specialized talent in regions where they have no local legal presence.
