The top people executive at Atmus Filtration Technologies is moving to U.S. shipbuilder HII to lead human resources for its 46,000-person workforce.
Renee Swan has been named executive vice-president and chief human resources officer (CHRO) at HII, effective Dec. 7. She is currently senior vice-president and chief people officer at Nashville-based Atmus, where she leads all aspects of HR.
“Whether you’re a shipbuilder on the deckplate, or a technologist, nuclear engineer, or working in a support function, people will always be at the heart of HII,” said Chris Kastner, president and CEO of HII. “I thank Edmond for his important contribution to the evolution and growth of HII and I welcome Renee to build on Edmond’s success, and lead our people strategy forward.”
Swan replaces Edmond Hughes, who led HR for HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division before becoming the company’s CHRO in 2022. Hughes will support the transition before he retires in April 2027, after 21 years with the company.
At HII, Swan will oversee a wide range of HR functions. These include HR strategy, executive and employee compensation, health and welfare, benefits, and employee and labour relations.
She will also be responsible for learning and development, talent management and succession planning, talent acquisition, equal employment opportunity, organizational effectiveness and change management.
Before joining Atmus, Swan was a vice-president of HR at defence contractor L3Harris. She also has HR experience at Kennametal, Honeywell International and Eaton.
She holds a master of professional studies in human resource management from Cornell University, an MBA from Point Park University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Pittsburgh.
HII, based in Newport News, Va., builds manned and unmanned maritime systems and other defence technologies for the United States and its allies. The company has three divisions and a history of more than 140 years.
