Toronto Pearson airport is celebrating its employees with the first ever Airport Workers Day.
It’s designed to recognize the “unwavering commitment of airport workers across the country,” said Deborah Flint, president and CEO of Toronto Pearson. “From equipment operators to security personnel to administrators, the roles within Toronto Pearson and Canada’s airports are critical in delivering excellence for our passengers and community.”
This event highlights the key role played by more than 50,000 workers at Toronto Pearson. These employees are instrumental in facilitating the movement of an estimated 150 million passengers through Canada’s airports annually, it said. Their efforts contribute not only to the travel experience but also to the broader economy.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also acknowledged the critical work done by airport workers.
“I thank all the airport workers at Toronto Pearson for the amazing work you do year-round, keeping our country’s busiest airport running smoothly,” he said. “Your hard work and dedication keep families and friends connected and play a critical role in our economy by supporting businesses, boosting tourism, and facilitating international trade.”
Minister of Small Business Rechie Valdez joined in celebrating the day. “It’s so great to be at Toronto Pearson for the first-ever Airport Workers Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the incredible individuals who keep our airports running smoothly, and move cargo that ensures businesses across the country can run and contribute to our economy,” Valdez said.
In conjunction with Airport Workers Day, Toronto Pearson launched the “Make Pearson Possible” campaign. This initiative aims to showcase the vital roles within the aviation ecosystem and share personal stories from employees, illustrating their significant contributions, it said.
Toronto Pearson International Airport, the largest airport in Canada, serves as a crucial hub for connecting people, businesses, and goods. In 2023, the airport facilitated travel for 45 million passengers to 195 destinations worldwide. Employing 50,000 people, Toronto Pearson contributes $42 billion annually to Ontario’s economy, making it the second-largest economic zone in Canada.
