Alectra Inc. has been recognized as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top Employers for 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year the utility company has received the honour. The annual ranking, conducted by Mediacorp Canada Inc., evaluates workplaces across eight categories, including benefits, work atmosphere, training, and community involvement.
Brian Bentz, president and chief executive officer of Alectra Inc., attributed the recognition to the efforts of the company’s workforce.
“Being recognized as one of the GTA’s Top Employers speaks to the passion and commitment of our employees, who are at the heart of everything we do,” he said. “Their dedication to customer service strengthens our mission to empower communities and create a brighter, more sustainable future.”
Alectra was noted for several workplace policies, including 35 weeks of adoption leave top-up, $2,700 annually for mental health care, and full tuition coverage for job-related education. The company also offers extensive training and skills development programs, as well as initiatives tied to sustainability goals.
The company’s community contributions were another factor in its selection. Alectra’s AlectraCARES Community Support program donates over $1 million annually to charitable organizations. In 2024, these efforts included a $180,000 donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, $25,000 for homeless support during the Coldest Night of the Year campaign, and $10,000 for Hamilton’s Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
In addition to its placement among the GTA’s Top Employers, Alectra has been recognized for its sustainability initiatives. It ranks among Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights and holds the PRISM Certified “Caring Company” designation from Imagine Canada.
Alectra serves more than one million customers in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe region, making it the largest municipally owned electric utility in Canada. The company’s services include energy infrastructure investment and innovative energy solutions to support economic growth and sustainability.
