More than 6,400 school support workers in New Brunswick have voted to ratify a new collective agreement with the provincial government, ending a process that stretched nearly a year since a tentative deal was reached.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2745, which represents the workers, confirmed the vote in favour of the agreement.
Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy acknowledged the lengthy timeline in a statement.
“We are pleased that members of CUPE 2745 have ratified their tentative agreement, which has been pending a vote for almost a year.”
Who the agreement covers
CUPE 2745 represents employees in several school-based roles, including:
- School and district administrative assistants
- Education assistants
- School intervention workers
- School library workers
Legacy also recognized the broader contribution of the workers covered by the deal.
“I also want to recognize the vital role these workers play in our education system each day.”
The provincial government said further details will be shared once the agreement has been formally signed.
