The SHRM Foundation has named Marjorie Morrison, a licensed mental health professional, as its Mental Health Executive-in-Residence, marking a significant step in its efforts to improve workplace mental health.
Morrison will spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering innovation in mental health solutions, including developing programs, tools, and training to assist workplace leaders and HR professionals. The role is part of the foundation’s broader strategy to address the increasing demand for mental health support in the workplace.
“The workplace is a critical frontier for mental health transformation,” Morrison said. “This platform offers a unique chance to advance the SHRM Foundation’s vision of promoting mentally healthy, thriving workplaces while shaping SHRM’s mental health strategy.”
According to SHRM Foundation President Wendi Safstrom, Morrison’s appointment aligns with research highlighting the challenges faced by workers. “Almost half of all workers report feeling burned out, and nearly a quarter experience chronic anxiety. HR professionals, employers, and managers have a crucial responsibility in providing resources and reducing stigma,” Safstrom said.
Morrison brings over 30 years of experience in clinical and business settings, having developed programs such as a counseling initiative for the Marine Corps and co-founding Psych Hub, a mental health education platform. Her work has included training civilians to support veterans and advancing mental health resources through digital tools.
In her new role, Morrison will collaborate with SHRM leaders to create data-driven mental health solutions, establish strategic partnerships, and advance thought leadership.
The SHRM Foundation is a nonprofit affiliate of SHRM, the world’s largest HR professional society, with nearly 340,000 members globally. Its mission is to address workplace challenges, including mental health, by mobilizing HR professionals to lead meaningful change.
