Food Lion earns top employer certification in the united states

by HR News Canada

Food Lion has been certified as a Top Employer in the United States by the Top Employers Institute, a global organization recognizing excellence in human resources practices. The grocery retailer, which operates more than 1,100 stores across 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, was acknowledged for its policies supporting employee inclusion, well-being, and career development.

The certification is based on the institute’s HR Best Practices Survey, which evaluates companies across six categories: people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, inclusion, and well-being. Food Lion’s efforts in these areas earned it recognition as a workplace fostering a supportive culture for its 82,000 employees.

Linda Johnson, Food Lion’s Chief Human Resources & Communications Officer, said the certification reflects the company’s focus on creating an inclusive environment. “Deliberate and relevant human resources practices lay the foundation for a strong company culture. Putting these policies into practice reaffirms the importance of caring for associates and setting them up for success,” she said.

David Plink, CEO of the Top Employers Institute, noted that certified organizations have adapted well to changing workplace dynamics. “Amidst constant change—through technological advances, economic shifts, and evolving social landscapes—it is inspiring to see people and organizations rise to the challenge,” Plink said.

The institute’s 2025 certification program includes more than 2,400 organizations globally, impacting over 13 million employees. Food Lion joins these organizations in being recognized for its focus on HR strategies that promote employee well-being and growth.

Food Lion, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Salisbury, N.C., is part of Ahold Delhaize USA. The retailer has also committed to hunger relief initiatives through its Food Lion Feeds program, which aims to donate 1.5 billion meals by 2025.
