The Government of Saskatchewan and the province’s public school teachers have reached a new collective agreement, bringing an end to months of uncertainty following arbitration.

The deal, signed by the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee (GTBC) and the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee, is retroactive to Sept. 1, 2023, and will remain in effect until Aug. 31, 2026.

It follows the release of an arbitrator’s report in March that helped guide the final terms of the contract.

“We appreciate the work and collaboration of the bargaining committees to achieve this result and are pleased to have a new agreement that provides certainty for teachers, students and their families,” Education Minister Everett Hindley said in a statement.

Hindley added that the government recognizes the important role teachers play and expressed a commitment to working together on shared priorities to support the province’s education system.

The GTBC includes representatives from the provincial government and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association.

Details of the agreement, including any changes to wages or working conditions, were not disclosed in the announcement.
