Unionized employees at the Jean Coutu Group’s distribution centre in Varennes, Que., have ratified a new five-year collective agreement with parent company Metro Inc.

The deal covers workers at the warehouse supporting Jean Coutu and Brunet pharmacies across the region. Metro said the agreement positions the company to continue meeting the needs of its affiliated pharmacists and customers while maintaining competitiveness.

In a brief statement, the company said the agreement allows the Jean Coutu Group “to continue to respond effectively to the needs of pharmacist owners affiliated with the Jean Coutu and Brunet banners, as well as to the needs of customers and employees.”

Metro Inc., which owns the Jean Coutu Group, operates more than 995 food stores and approximately 640 pharmacies across Quebec and Ontario. The company employs more than 97,000 people.

Metro’s banners include Metro, Super C, Food Basics and Adonis in the grocery sector, and Jean Coutu, Brunet, Metro Pharmacy and Food Basics Pharmacy in the pharmacy sector.
