BambooHR has launched an on-demand pay tool that lets workers tap their earned wages before payday, the human resources software company announced Monday.

The product, called BambooHR On-Demand Pay, is built into the company’s payroll system and mobile app. It is powered by Clair, a New York-based financial technology firm that provides earned wage access services. The tool is free for employers on all BambooHR packages, the company said.

Workers can move their money to a bank account at no cost in one to three business days, or pay a $4.99 fee for an instant transfer.

“An employee’s financial life doesn’t stop between paychecks,” said Brian Crofts, chief product officer at BambooHR. “We are solving a primary pain point for employees while giving employers a powerful tool for retention and satisfaction—all within one unifying platform.”

How it works

The tool lets workers sign up on their own and request advances through the BambooHR app or website. There is no paperwork for HR staff to process, the company said.

Advances are based on wages a worker has already earned. Repayment is handled automatically by Clair through the worker’s linked bank account.

Because the advances are tied to earned wages and not borrowed against future income, there are no interest charges, credit checks or late fees, BambooHR said. The company said there are also no funding requirements for employers and no impact on company cash flow.

Demand for flexible pay

BambooHR pointed to its 2025 Compensation Trends Report, which found 50 per cent of workers struggle with the rising cost of living.

“BambooHR has built one of the most trusted HR platforms for growing businesses,” said Nico Simko, chief executive officer and co-founder of Clair. “By embedding Clair directly into BambooHR, we’re helping employers offer meaningful financial flexibility to their teams—without added complexity. Together, we’re modernizing the way people get paid.”

Based in Draper, Utah, BambooHR serves more than 30,000 customers in over 190 countries and holds more than three million employee records, the company said. Clair operates at more than 160,000 work locations across 29 industries and has raised $93.7 million US in equity funding from investors including Thrive Capital, Upfront Ventures, Kairos HQ and Founder Collective. Clair’s services are supported through a partnership with Pathward, a national bank based in the United States.
