Premier Wab Kinew paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who have died in the line of duty, as Manitobans gathered to honour them at the province’s annual Fallen Firefighter Ceremony.

Six names were added to the memorial this year, each representing a firefighter who lost their life while serving the province.

“These names represent brave Manitobans we lost this year that have left a legacy of service,” Kinew said in a statement released ahead of the ceremony.

Kinew reflected on the selflessness of firefighters, describing their work as embodying the province’s values of solidarity and support for one another.

“Each of them lived up to the belief we all have as Manitobans that we don’t leave anyone behind and we help those who need it most,” he said. “Firefighters show up for us on some of our worst days and show incredible bravery and courage each day in carrying out their duties.”

The premier reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting emergency responders and ensuring that communities remain safe.

“As a government, we will continue to work to support those who keep our communities safe,” Kinew said.

The Fallen Firefighter Ceremony is held annually to honour the lives of firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving Manitoba.
