Tracy Abel retiring as COO from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan at end of year

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has announced that Tracy Abel, Chief Operating Officer, will be retiring at the end of the year, concluding a distinguished 37-year career with the organization.

“Throughout her 37 years with the organization, Tracy has played a key role in helping us deliver outstanding service and retirement security for our members,” said Jo Taylor, President and CEO of Ontario Teachers’. Taylor emphasized Abel’s contributions, noting her “strong leadership capabilities, passion for talent development, and deep understanding of the day-to-day operations” of the pension plan.

Abel began her tenure with the Teacher Superannuation Fund in 1987. Over the years, she advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in her appointment as Chief Pension Officer in 2014. In this role, she was pivotal in developing innovative solutions to enhance member services and establishing industry-leading service levels. Abel was appointed Chief Operations Officer in 2020, further solidifying her impact on the organization.

In addition to her roles within the pension plan, Abel has represented Ontario Teachers’ on the boards of several portfolio companies, including In Touch.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan will provide further information regarding Abel’s retirement and the succession plan in due course.
