HP Inc. has appointed Carol Surface as its new chief people officer, effective March 24, the company announced Wednesday.
Surface, who most recently held the same role at Apple, brings decades of experience in human resources and organizational leadership. Her previous roles include a 10-year tenure as chief human resources officer at Medtronic, where she led transformation initiatives to drive business growth, and senior leadership positions at Best Buy and PepsiCo.
Enrique Lores, HP’s president and CEO, said Surface’s appointment comes as the company focuses on shaping the future of work.
“This year, we have an opportunity to lead the Future of Work, and developing our culture and talent will be essential to achieving this goal,” Lores said. “Carol brings the right experience and insight to guide us on that journey.”
Surface succeeds Kristen Ludgate, who announced her retirement last year after leading HP’s People Organization for four years.
Surface holds a PhD in industrial organizational psychology from Central Michigan University. She has been recognized as a fellow by the National Academy of Human Resources and has served as vice chair of the HR Policy Association. She is also a member of Gartner’s CHRO Leadership Board and the advisory board for the University of South Carolina’s Center for Executive Succession.
HP, a global technology company with operations in more than 170 countries, said Surface’s appointment reflects its commitment to fostering innovation and agility in its workforce.
