BambooHR is adding a team of in-house HR consultants, payroll specialists and technical staff who will work directly inside customers’ accounts, the company announced Aug. 27.
The new offering, called BambooHR Expert Services, expands the Draper, Utah-based company’s business beyond software. It covers three areas: HR consulting, managed payroll and technical services, all delivered by BambooHR’s own staff working inside a customer’s existing account rather than through a separate system.
“The hardest part of HR usually isn’t the doing, it’s the deciding. And right now, that’s harder than ever — work is changing, HR’s role is changing, the tools are changing,” said Tara Martell, chief customer officer. “Our customers don’t need another report sitting in their inbox. They need someone who knows their business and their account, who can help them think through the decision and then help them put it into action. That’s why we built our new HR services offering.”
Under HR consulting, customers get a dedicated HR consultant and HRIS consultant who advise on decisions and then configure the result directly in BambooHR. That work covers employee relations, leave of absence guidance, performance management, compensation planning, policy and handbook development, and org design. Customers can sign on for an ongoing partnership or a one-time project called an HR Diagnostic.
The managed payroll service assigns a dedicated specialist to run a customer’s full payroll cycle, from data preparation through tax filing and employee payments, inside the customer’s own account. Customers approve every run and retain full visibility into the process. The service is available for US-based employees.
Technical services is aimed at projects most HR teams rarely handle on their own, including migrations off legacy systems, account clones and merges following an acquisition, general ledger reporting, and custom payroll reporting tied to 401(k), health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts and workers’ compensation data.
Across all three services, BambooHR said customers keep ownership of their people, policies and decisions. No part of the employment relationship transfers to the company, and the arrangement does not make BambooHR a professional employer organization, a structure in which a third party formally co-employs a client’s workforce.
BambooHR pitched the new offering as a companion to Bamboo AI, an embedded set of AI agents and tools it introduced in July. The company said its platform can already draft a policy, flag a payroll anomaly or generate a report within seconds, but that deciding whether a given move fits a specific business, its people and its culture remains a human call.
“Most consultants can’t touch the system they’re advising on, so customers end up holding a strategy with no one to execute it,” Martell said. “Our experts are using BambooHR every day. There’s no ramp-up, and nothing gets handed back as homework.”
BambooHR said its consulting team averages more than 10 years of HR experience and holds a mix of professional certifications and advanced degrees, in addition to direct knowledge of the BambooHR platform.
Expert Services is available now. BambooHR describes itself as a people intelligence platform for small and mid-sized businesses, with more than 30,000 customers in over 190 countries and more than three million employee records on the platform.
